The Charlotte Crown fell short in the first of three consecutive meetings with Savannah as they lost 81-76 in overtime on Thursday.
Deja Kelly and Reagan Richardson led the way offensively for Charlotte, and newcomer Michelle Onyiah made it a double-double in both games she’s played, but the Crown ultimately extended their losing streak to three games.
The teams will play once more in Savannah on Friday before returning to Charlotte to finish their hectic week with a 7 p.m. matchup at Bojangles Coliseum on Saturday.
The teams were in a tight, back-and-forth battle until the Crown went on a 12-2 run to end the first half, culminating in Kelly’s buzzer beater to give the visitors a 41-33 lead. Charlotte would build that lead to 12 points in the third quarter and led the game 65-56 with just under eight minutes left in the game, but the Steel went on a 13-4 run to force overtime, when a pair of Steel three-pointers in the final minutes allowed them to pull away for good.
Since defeating Jacksonville in the UPSHOT League’s inaugural game two weeks ago, the Crown have now lost three straight games, one to each of the league’s other teams.
