The road trip rolls on as the Crown head to the Sunshine State for a pair of tilts against the Waves. Before tip-off comes, let’s take a look at some of the keys to victory for Charlotte.
STAY HOT
The Crown continue to power through their schedule as the league’s hottest team, winning each of their last six contests. They have been doing so in convincing fashion as well, with five of the six victories coming by at least 10 points. The red-hot run has catapulted Charlotte up the standings – buried in the cellar at the start of the streak, the team now sits in second place in the UPSHOT League.
While the winning streak has featured wins over Greensboro and Savannah, Charlotte’s biggest challenge lays ahead this weekend as it faces the first-place Waves. Along with being the last team to hand the Crown a loss, Jacksonville holds the best record in the league at 9-3.
KELLY KEEPS SCORING
The leading scorer on this Crown squad, Deja Kelly posted an impressive 26 points in her last outing – surpassing the 25-point mark for the second time this season and nearing her high of 31 points for the opener. The guard has reached double-digit points in 11 of 13 games this season and ranks third in the UPSHOT League in scoring, but that’s not the extent of the damage she’s doing to opponents – Kelly has also posted 4.2 assists per game to lead the league.
SMOTHERED
The most striking aspect of Charlotte’s current winning streak has been on the defensive side of the ball. The Crown have stifled their opponents during this stretch, only surrendering over 75 points once and never allowing 80. That lockdown performance has launched the team into the number one spot in the UPSHOT League in terms of points allowed per game.
