Today, UPSHOT announced that Charlotte community leader, attorney, and advocate Robin Mermans has joined the Charlotte Crown as an investor through the Empower Her Fund. A founding member of the Fund, Mermans brings a longstanding commitment to expanding opportunities for women and families through her legal practice, community leadership, and investment in women’s professional sports.
“I have the privilege of standing alongside women at pivotal moments in their lives,” said Mermans. “I have seen what is possible when women feel supported and empowered, and I am committed to building a community where women lift each other up. Investing in women’s sports is a natural extension of that commitment.”
Mermans is the founder and principal attorney of ROAD to RESOLUTION, a Collaborative Family Law practice. She currently serves on the board of The Merancas Foundation and previously held board positions with Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and the North Carolina Collaborative Attorney Network. Recognized as a 2024 North Carolina Leader in the Law, Mermans is also a member of the North Carolina Pro Bono Honor Society.
The Charlotte Crown captured the inaugural UPSHOT Championship in August. As the league prepares for its second season in 2027, the Empower Her Fund’s investment reflects a shared commitment to growing women’s professional sports in Charlotte and increasing women’s participation in sports ownership.
