Today, UPSHOT announced that Charlotte business and finance executive Heather Harjes has joined The Charlotte Crown ownership group through the Empower Her Fund, adding another local investor with deep ties to the community and a commitment to the growth of women’s sports.
“Women’s sports are having an incredible moment, and yet it feels like we’re only at the beginning,” said Harjes. “As the mom of two daughters, I love being part of something that elevates women, expands what’s possible, and gives the next generation more role models to watch, admire, and cheer for. Getting to support that growth right here in Charlotte makes it especially meaningful.”
Harjes serves as Chief Accounting Officer of Compass Group and has nearly 25 years of experience across finance and accounting. She holds an MBA from Wake Forest University and lives in Charlotte with her wife and two daughters. An avid local sports fan, Harjes and her family are particularly passionate about women’s sports.
The Charlotte Crown captured the inaugural UPSHOT Championship in August. As the league prepares for its second season in 2027, the Empower Her Fund’s investment reflects a shared commitment to growing women’s professional sports in Charlotte and increasing women’s participation in sports ownership.
