The Crown are welcoming the Steel to town for another battle at the Biscuit. Before today’s tip-off, let’s take a look at some keys to the matchup.
KEEP ON ROLLING
The Crown’s last outing saw them snap out of what had been a six-game skid. The decisive victory over the Steel gave the team its second win of the season and first at Bojangles Coliseum, providing a positive note in what had otherwise been a tough start to the year. The task for Charlotte now is to keep things going. The Crown currently occupy the cellar of the UPSHOT League, but have a chance to gain significant ground on a Savannah team that sits right above them and begin their ascent up the standings.
NEW FACES
Charlotte’s roster has undergone plenty of shuffling as this season has progressed. The team recently waived Jasmyne Roberts and Dazia Lawrence and has now brought on Nicole Gwynn and Kiki Jefferson to fill those guard spots. Gwynn’s college career took her to South Carolina State (where she was twice named to the All-Conference third-team) Queens University of Charlotte and Georgia Southern before she headed overseas to play in Morocco last season, while Jefferson starred for four seasons at James Madison and another at Louisville and was taken in the third round of the 2024 WNBA Draft. Prior to this the Crown’s most recent addition was Shaquilla Nunn, who broke out with a dominant performance in the team’s last outing.
FAMILIAR FOE
Today’s tilt marks the fifth time in the last six games that Charlotte will face Savannah. The Crown are 1-3 in these contests thus far, and the matchups have run the gamut – two were tight games while two had lopsided final scores.
